Remind new international employees and students to complete their Sprintax Calculus profile
Sprintax Calculus, the new online platform for exchanging information and documents with international employees and students, replaces the mandatory one-on-one appointment system with the International Tax Office.
Instead of meeting with the International Tax Office, new international employees are required to complete a Sprintax profile to submit details and documents necessary to determine their U.S. tax residency status and ensure accurate taxation, including certain tax exemptions.
Existing international employees will also use Sprintax Calculus to update their tax information at the year-end review period.
Reminders for Sprintax Calculus
- New employees: All new employees who have not had an appointment with the International Tax office for the 2024-2025 academic year will receive an email from cuintltax-noreply@sprintax.com within 14 days of their employment start date, inviting them to complete their profile.
- If a new employee in your department has not yet received this email invitation, please have them contact intltax@cu.edu or attend the International Tax Office’s virtual office hours as soon as possible. This process is necessary to complete the onboarding process and ensure accurate taxation.
- Current employees: No action is needed from international employees who have already met with the International Tax Office and students who are not employed. These populations will receive emails from cuintltax-noreply@cu.edu when their annual review of record is requested, near the end of the calendar year.
- Students: International students receiving non-qualified scholarship for the first time in fall 2024 will also receive an invitation to complete a Sprintax profile.
CU specific information and user guides can be found on the International Tax website.
Sprintax Calculus advantages during U.S. tax season:
- Integration of international employee, student and nonresident alien tax data into Sprintax Returns, which will lessen stress and possibility of errors around U.S. tax filing time.
- Online access to Form 1042-S (with the recipient’s consent), which will reduce mailing delays and the need to reissue the form.
