The Excellence in Leadership Award honors a graduate of the Excellence in Leadership Program (ELP) who has shown exemplary leadership at the university.

Nominees should demonstrate, in one or more areas, the following attributes:

  • Exceptional leadership: Demonstrates exceptional leadership by thoughtfully strategizing, motivating teams and achieving measurable results while consistently aligning actions with the University of Colorado's mission, guiding principles and vision. Effectively manages resources and stakeholders to enhance operational efficiency and advance strategic goals. Additionally, their leadership creates an environment where CU community members have a sense of belonging, feel valued and are empowered to meaningfully contribute to CU's mission.
  • Impactful contributions: Leads projects, programs or research endeavors that have significant and measurable impacts on the University of Colorado as a whole and/or their respective campus community, evidenced by quantifiable metrics and recognition.
  • Community engagement: Actively participates in initiatives, activities or partnerships that contribute to positive community outcomes and strengthen the University of Colorado system and/or their respective campus’ mission and reputation.

Nomination Directions

Submit the nomination packet, including letters of support and supporting materials, through the nomination form. Nominations will be accepted until 5 p.m. MT Nov. 25, 2026.

Nominations must include:

  • 2026 Nomination Form 
  • One letter of support, which may be written by anyone who can provide an additional perspective on the nominee’s leadership and impact. The letter should complement the information provided in the nomination form.
  • Optional supporting documentation such as links to or a list of published works or information about recent recognitions may be included as long as all documentation, including the required letter of support, totals no more than 10 pages.
  • The faculty award recipient and staff award recipient will be recognized at the Excellence in Leadership Luncheon on April 2, 2027.
