Our Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Program recently concluded its final quarter for FY 2013. On April 10, we offered three courses: Emotional Intelligence, Fiscal Roles in Financial Systems and Reporting, and GASB Update. On April 29, we repeated two popular courses from earlier quarters: Understanding Internal Controls, and Cash Controls. In CPA-CPE terms, the value of these courses to their three-dozen participants is conservatively estimated at $13,275.
On Fri, April 26, the OUC hosted its first annual CPE Instructor Appreciation Event. This year’s celebration honors the 19 current instructors in the CU CPE for CPAs (Continuing Professional Education for Certified Public Accountants) Program. Lisa Suzanne Vallad, CPE Program Manager, reviewed CPE statistics, program success to date, and plans for FY2014. She commended the instructors for their continued high evaluations and noted that framed certificates of appreciation would be sent to them shortly.
Due to severe weather, our April 16 CPE courses were rescheduled to Monday, April 29. For more information on the two courses (Understanding Internal Controls, Cash Controls), see the CPE website at www.cu.edu/controller/cpe. If you registered for an April 16 session, please contact CPE Program Manager, Lisa Suzanne Vallad, at cu.cpe@cu.edu to indicate your availability for the new date.
Our CPE Program wraps up the 4th quarter of FY13 with a promising day of all-new courses ... and a "back by popular demand" day of repeats. We've had a tremendous registration response and all courses are waitlisted; however, if you would like to attend, contact the CPE Program Manager, Lisa Vallad: www.cu.edu/controller/contact/staff/lisa_vallad.html.
Check out the CPE website for information on our new courses scheduled for Wed, April 10 (GASB Updates; Emotional Intelligence; Fiscal Roles in Financial Systems and Reporting). And -- if you haven't taken them before -- do consider the repeated courses on Tue, April 16 (Understanding Internal Controls; Cash Controls).
On Feb 5 and Feb 13, the OUC presented its 3rd quarter in the FY 2013 CU CPE for CPAs Program. The combined days provided up to 13-1/2 credits (valued at almost $18,000) in continuing professional education for certified public accountants, auditors, and other employees. We were particularly pleased to welcome 21 new participants.  Overall evaluations remain high, with 99% of attendees rating the instructors as effective, 98% agreeing that course content was relevant, and 100% affirming that learning objectives were met.
This month our Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Program continued to bring no-cost professional development and CPE credits for CPAs, auditors, and other individuals. On Feb 5, we had strong attendance in 4 new courses: Personal Tax Update; Revenue Recognition; Gift Fund Management; and Effective Presentations.
The Office of University Controller recently presented Town Hall sessions to share accomplishments and initiatives with campus staff and hear their thoughts and questions.
The OUC continues its highly acclaimed CPE for CPAs with two days of courses during the month of November 2012. The letters translate to “Continuing Professional Education for Certified Public Accountants,” but you should note two important facts about our program:
  1. You may be able to use our CPE to support audit or other certifications, in addition to using it to maintain a CPA license; and,
  2. You can participate whether you are a CPA or not. This no-cost professional development is open to all CU employees!
Registration is going on now for five CPE courses being offered next month. Our new day of training focuses on Cognos tools, philosophy, and approach:
  • Cognos – Financial Statement Reading, Reconciliation, and Forecasting
  • Quality Assurance in CU’s Reporting Initiative
  • Time Management
Our repeat day of training brings back two courses that filled to capacity when they were offered earlier this year:
  • Banking and Payments
  • Topics in Effective Writing
