Departments with sponsored project activity: check out the new Cognos Reporting System folder, Finance > Project Reports. And in particular, check out the newest addition to that folder, m-Fin PROJECT FINANCIAL STATUS. This report is getting great reviews from faculty and staff who love its project-only focus and comprehensive scope. It’s similar to the popular m-Fin OPERATING SUMMARY but was designed (and runs) exclusively for projects.
If you aren’t reading Carl’s m-Fin blog, you’re missing some very interesting developments in the Cognos Reporting System. Here’s a recent example: The new m-Fin ACCOUNT ACTUALS PERIOD BY FISCAL YEAR report summarizes Account ChartField values (as the report title indicates) across the accounting periods of multiple fiscal years. History in your hands! You can review historical cash balances on a clinical trial … take a look at salary over the years … or monitor operating expenditures. But there’s more.
During the OUC Town Hall sessions on the campuses, we showed a looping slide show of Office of University Controller facts and figures. The slide show was titled, "OUC by the Numbers" and after the town halls, we received some requests to replay some of the numbers for you on this blog. So following is an excerpt ... a select number of the Numbers: 10,170,471 - journal lines created in FY 2013 45,207 - active SpeedTypes 2,020 - PeopleSoft Finance System users 263 - learning resources available online for fiscal systems and policies
If you haven't worked in the Cognos Reporting System recently, you should know that there's a new folder in town: It's called HELP and it provides quick and easy access to Carl's m-Fin blog, to Cognos learning resources, and to the FinPro Help Desk.
The OUC closed out a week of Town Hall sessions with a visit to the Denver Campus on Fri, Oct 11. We had a nice crowd in the beautiful Business School building downtown. Participants were particularly interested in learning about the OUC's work in technology/resources, Cognos m-Fin reports, and PeopleSoft Finance.  We were pleased to review the comments and suggestions on the session feedback forms ... and particularly appreciated the statement, "Thank you for your time and enthusiasm!" A great way to wrap up our Town Halls for 2013. We look forward to seeing you all again next year!
Several Office of University Controller staff spent a day in Boulder on Oct 9 as part of the fall campus town halls.
Following up on the Oct 7 OUC Town Hall in Colorado Springs, we visited the historic old hospital (Building 500) on the Anschutz Medical Campus on the very next day. A lively crowd filled Bushnell Auditorium. (Trivia question: do you know how this auditorium got its name? From Colonel George E. Bushnell, who was sent to the state in November 1917 to inspect possible sites for a tuberculosis/recuperation camp.)
Office of University Controller (OUC) staff launched the first Town Hall of 2013 on the Colorado Springs campus on Mon, Oct 7. Assistant Vice President/University Controller Bob Kuehler reviewed Fiscal Certification feedback, commended the campus for their participation in the FY 2013 CU Shared Practices (CUSP) Program, and outlined OUC highlights of the past year. OUC staff members discussed updates and plans on topics ranging from Cognos and PeopleSoft Finance to technology and Continuing Professional Education (CPE).
The Office of University Controller (OUC) will be visiting each campus during the week of Oct 7-11 for this year's OUC Town Halls. Through our annual Town Hall sessions, we can share news on OUC activities and directions...hear your thoughts and suggestions about how to better serve you...and continue to promote transparency and accountability in all that we do.
