We’re happy to announce some recent and excellent developments in 17 of the Cognos management-financial (m-Fin) reports.
Good (Cognos) news: We recently migrated several m-Fin reports from the Cognos QA test environment to the Cognos production environment. Better input validation! More data elements! Learn about these enhancements at https://www.cu.edu/controller/initiatives/reporting/?p=2784. More good news: No more m-Fin production migrations until *after* FY 2013 year-end close!
Welcome, Sarju Khadka! Sarju joined the OUC in early June, bringing an extensive background in Cognos report-writing to our University-wide m-Fin project. She will work closely with our Associate Director for Reporting Systems, Carl Sorenson. A certified Cognos developer, Sarju is also completing her CPA.  She and her husband are relocating to Colorado from Minnesota, where she worked for US Bank. We are delighted she's now here at CU!
Need access to financial transaction update or inquiry? (FIN? Cognos? Marketplace? Procurement or Travel Card?) Now there's an easy way to find out what training is required or recommended. The new Quick Reference Guide to Access & Training Requirements identifies the appropriateonline courses -- and the occasional live class -- for multiples systems. In addition, the resource explains how to request the desired access and provides links to specific application forms.
Do you hate it when headers disappear on your financial reports? Just remember: You are in control! For your Cognos financial reports, run in HTML, you can keep those column headers visible on screen while you scroll. All you need to do is right-click anywhere in the list. In the resulting pop-up box, select Freeze Column Headings. For more information, see Carl's m-Fin blog: www.cu.edu/controller/initiatives/reporting/?p=2698
The Office of University Controller recently presented Town Hall sessions to share accomplishments and initiatives with campus staff and hear their thoughts and questions.
Your dedicated Cognos Reporting team members – Carl Sorenson and Rosen Georgiev – continue their work on the FishNet replacement reports.
Let’s catch up with our Reporting Systems staff – Carl Sorenson and Rosen Georgiev – and review recent developments in Cognos:

Gone Fishin’: New FishNet Replacements

The old FishNet query tool will be decommissioned later this fall so FishNet’s financial queries are now being reviewed for conversion to Cognos m-Fin reports. If you’ve needed the data provided by FishNet’s Pay Detail by Dept ID or Employee ID, please check out these m-Fin replacements (now available in the test environment, Cognos QA) and let Carl know what you think:
  • m-Fin PAYROLL TRANSACTIONS
We still respond to questions like “What happened to all the Cognos reports?” Your default display presents the first 15 reports. To see the remaining reports, use the entries scroll area (top right of screen, where it says 1-15). Click the double arrow to the right and the next 15 will show.
