A great way to begin the month of October: OUC and department staff exchanged information and questions at Town Hall sessions in Colorado Springs and Denver.
Current services. New initiatives. These are among the ways that the OUC can help you with your fiscal responsibilities and personal/professional development.
Kudos to OUC staff members Heather Hoyer and Lisa Vallad, both of whom will achieve CPLP designation effective May 1. Developed by the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD), the CPLP certification denotes a Certified Professional in Learning and Performance. The designation is achieved after considerable study, passing of a comprehensive test, and submission of a real-world work product.
Need training? Take a look at the recently reorganized folders in SkillSoft. Now, when you’re searching for our required or recommended online courses, you’ll find them under a more logical filing system.  The new navigation for online courses offered by the Office of University Controller (OUC) and the Procurement Service Center (PSC) is: Log in to your campus portal > on the CU Resources tab, select Training > select Start SkillSoft > select Catalog. Open the University of Colorado - Courses folder > select Finance (or select Procurement).
During the OUC Town Hall sessions on the campuses, we showed a looping slide show of Office of University Controller facts and figures. The slide show was titled, "OUC by the Numbers" and after the town halls, we received some requests to replay some of the numbers for you on this blog. So following is an excerpt ... a select number of the Numbers: 10,170,471 - journal lines created in FY 2013 45,207 - active SpeedTypes 2,020 - PeopleSoft Finance System users 263 - learning resources available online for fiscal systems and policies
Congratulations to Finance & Procurement Help Desk Senior Consultant Brian Dyet -- recently announced as the winner of the 2013 President’s Employee of the Year Award.
The Office of University Controller (OUC) will be visiting each campus during the week of Oct 7-11 for this year's OUC Town Halls. Through our annual Town Hall sessions, we can share news on OUC activities and directions...hear your thoughts and suggestions about how to better serve you...and continue to promote transparency and accountability in all that we do. For a schedule of campus Town Halls, and to register, go to https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ouctownhalls
Please plan to join us when we visit your campus, Oct 7-11, for our annual OUC Town Halls. The Town Hall sessions are short, but full of information … on Continuing Professional Education opportunities, Cognos Reporting System developments, new FinPro Help Desk tools, and more. This is your chance to hear about what we’ve done lately – and to provide feedback on future directions. We promise a thoughtful exchange of ideas – and a few surprises! Register now at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ouctownhalls
Do you like being shadowed? Many of our callers to the Finance & Procurement Help Desk would like the FinProHelp Consultants to shadow them -- in other words, to look directly at their screens as the Consultants answer technical or procedural questions. Good news in time for fiscal year-end: We'll be implementing a new (and better) shadowing tool later this month. Look for the announcement in a future OUC blog posting.
The 11th Annual Professional Development Symposium, CU Women Succeeding, was held on the Boulder Campus in February. There, our FinPro Help Desk Manager, Leslie Nittoli, joined  R L Widmann and Viktoriya Oliynyk (both of UCB) in facilitating an interactive session on “the value of sharing stories of our professional journey.” The lively presentation was enhanced by music and small-group breakouts. A fun touch: the colorful and informational name tag-placards completed and worn by all participants.
