The OUC closed out a week of Town Hall sessions with a visit to the Denver Campus on Fri, Oct 11.
We had a nice crowd in the beautiful Business School building downtown. Participants were particularly interested in learning about the OUC's work in technology/resources, Cognos m-Fin reports, and PeopleSoft Finance.
We were pleased to review the comments and suggestions on the session feedback forms ... and particularly appreciated the statement, "Thank you for your time and enthusiasm!"
A great way to wrap up our Town Halls for 2013. We look forward to seeing you all again next year!
Following up on the Oct 7 OUC Town Hall in Colorado Springs, we visited the historic old hospital (Building 500) on the Anschutz Medical Campus on the very next day.
A lively crowd filled Bushnell Auditorium. (Trivia question: do you know how this auditorium got its name? From Colonel George E. Bushnell, who was sent to the state in November 1917 to inspect possible sites for a tuberculosis/recuperation camp.)
Office of University Controller (OUC) staff launched the first Town Hall of 2013 on the Colorado Springs campus on Mon, Oct 7.
Assistant Vice President/University Controller Bob Kuehler reviewed Fiscal Certification feedback, commended the campus for their participation in the FY 2013 CU Shared Practices (CUSP) Program, and outlined OUC highlights of the past year. OUC staff members discussed updates and plans on topics ranging from Cognos and PeopleSoft Finance to technology and Continuing Professional Education (CPE).
Please plan to join us when we visit your campus, Oct 7-11, for our annual OUC Town Halls.
The Town Hall sessions are short, but full of information … on Continuing Professional Education opportunities, Cognos Reporting System developments, new FinPro Help Desk tools, and more. This is your chance to hear about what we’ve done lately – and to provide feedback on future directions. We promise a thoughtful exchange of ideas – and a few surprises!

The first quarter of our FY 2014 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Program will include three days of courses in September – both new offerings, and popular repeats. Training dates are Mon, Sept 9; Tues, Sept 17; and, Thur, Sept 26.
During the week of August 19, we’ll provide details on the specific courses being offered in September, with their descriptions and instructor information. We'll also open registration for CU employees.
Learn about the CPE Program→
Successful professional development is the result of strategic thinking and planning -- a joint effort for the employee and his or her organizational unit.
The OUC promotes this effort through our Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Program. Course topics range from accounting to personal skills development to computer expertise. We'll announce the complete FY 2014 CPE schedule later this month but for now, here's a preview:
Need access to financial transaction update or inquiry? (FIN? Cognos? Marketplace? Procurement or Travel Card?)
Now there's an easy way to find out what training is required or recommended. The new Quick Reference Guide to Access & Training Requirements identifies the appropriateonline courses -- and the occasional live class -- for multiples systems. In addition, the resource explains how to request the desired access and provides links to specific application forms.
Do you like being shadowed?
Many of our callers to the Finance & Procurement Help Desk would like the FinProHelp Consultants to shadow them -- in other words, to look directly at their screens as the Consultants answer technical or procedural questions.
Good news in time for fiscal year-end: We'll be implementing a new (and better) shadowing tool later this month. Look for the announcement in a future OUC blog posting.
Need access? If you're looking for authorization to use the PeopleSoft Finance System and/or CU Marketplace, look no further than the improved Financial Systems Access Request form available online at www.cu.edu/ums/security/CUonly/AMPS/accessrequestforms.php. (Note: We provide links to the access request form from both the OUC and PSC Forms webpages.)
