UCCS Hosts 1st OUC Town Hall of 2013

Office of University Controller (OUC) staff launched the first Town Hall of 2013 on the Colorado Springs campus on Mon, Oct 7. Assistant Vice President/University Controller Bob Kuehler reviewed Fiscal Certification feedback, commended the campus for their participation in the FY 2013 CU Shared Practices (CUSP) Program, and outlined OUC highlights of the past year. OUC staff members discussed updates and plans on topics ranging from Cognos and PeopleSoft Finance to technology and Continuing Professional Education (CPE).

FY 2013 Fiscal Certification & Assessment Moving Forward

Many individuals across the campuses have been receiving email reminders about their 2013 Fiscal Assessment due dates. According to University procedures, the officers to whom these individuals roll up cannot complete their own required Fiscal Certifications until the Assessments are done. Congratulations to Cal Anderson (OUC's Director of Financial & Reporting Systems) and Jaime Mendez (Financial Systems Analyst) on their well-received presentation at Alliance 2013 in Indianapolis last month. The talk was titled, "Business Process Improvement and Leveraging PeopleSoft Investment." It offered tips and templates for achieving both goals through the examples of PeopleSoft’s Accounts Receivable/Billing modules as well as Fiscal Certification and other innovative processes that utilize the Finance System at the University of Colorado.

Fiscal Certification and Assessment Emails

Earlier this week, about 1,000 individuals received email notifications of their responsibility to complete the Fiscal Certification or Fiscal Assessment. The process is off to a great start with over 300 completions already recorded. We’ve had a few questions about the officers listed in the emails so let’s review the roll-up process for the certification and assessment populations. As a reminder, your officer for this purpose is not necessarily the person to whom you report. This is consistent with how the roll-ups have worked in the past.

Fiscal Certification in Early Stages

Last week, officers and their delegates received email messages and population data in preparation for the 2012 Fiscal Certification process. Officers have until June 29 to assign new delegates, make any needed changes to their rollup populations, and set due dates for their rollups. Following this preliminary phase, the actual fiscal certification and assessment statements will launch on July 2 and run through September 26 (2 weeks longer than usual). Good news for all participants: We’ve made substantial improvements to the certification and assessment forms this year.
