Three days of April CPE wrap up the final quarter for the OUC’s Continuing Professional Education (CPE) program in FY 2014. Classes on April 10 were filled to capacity … and filled with lively discussion between instructors and participants. The day’s offerings included courses on Cognos m-Fin reports, budgeting basics, and PowerPoint/Word.
The Office of University Controller now offers a more customized approach to assist organizational units in conducting fundraising events. Departments can request an in-person training session with the OUC's Fundraising & Gift Compliance Specialist, Karen Ichiba. The session can focus on a specific topic or planned upcoming event, or can be a general discussion on what you need to know to conduct a University-sponsored event.  Questions? Want to set up a session? Contact Karen.Ichiba@cu.edu or 303-837.2125.
Every year, CU produces an audited financial report with a vast amount of information that is very important to a number of constituencies: rating agencies, the State of Colorado, federal funding agencies, the Board of Regents, and the public. However...providing a vast amount of information is not the same as providing easily understandable information. So the Office of University Controller decided to present the data in easy-to-understand language and charts.
This week, we saw three new best practice submissions complete the vetting process -- and be honored with posting on the CU Shared Practices (CUSP) website:
This quarter, our Continuing Professional Education (CPE) offerings are proving more popular than ever. All 14 courses are filling rapidly. And little wonder: These courses are designed to help you deepen your knowledge of the Cognos Reporting System, get organized for fiscal year-end, understand the intricacies of accruals, expand your proficiency in PowerPoint and Word ... and more.
Improving a business process in your department is a good thing to do.
Congratulations to Ryan Day, Financial Systems Analyst, and Normandy Roden, Director of Finance & Procurement Business Services. The two recently delivered successful presentations at the Alliance 2014 Conference. Ryan led a popular panel session titled, "It's All in the (Project) Plan: A Communications Strategy for Upgrades, etc." Normandy delivered a pre-conference workshop, "Up with Apps! Mobile Applications to Enliven Teaching and Learning."
"Works great!" "Showed up beautifully!" "Very, very helpful!" The above statements reflect the enthusiastic reviews of actual report users at CU. They’re talking about the new m-Fin RECEIVABLES TRANSACTION FINDER. This new report assists in tracking down a project sponsor payment that might have been booked on the wrong FOPPS. Identify the specific payment amount you’re looking for … or identify the specific sponsor and look at all projects for that sponsor. Either way, you’ll get a simple list report that can help you figure out what happened.
The Cognos Reporting System is a fast-moving financial reporting tool. How do you keep up with OUC staff members Carl Sorenson and Sarju Khadka ... and their continuous Cognos improvements (enhancements to existing reports and development of new reports)?
Are you:
  • Interested in learning something new?
  • Conscientious about fulfilling your fiscal responsibilities?
  • Looking for a way to earn Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credit as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA)?
