The OUC closed out a week of Town Hall sessions with a visit to the Denver Campus on Fri, Oct 11. We had a nice crowd in the beautiful Business School building downtown. Participants were particularly interested in learning about the OUC's work in technology/resources, Cognos m-Fin reports, and PeopleSoft Finance.  We were pleased to review the comments and suggestions on the session feedback forms ... and particularly appreciated the statement, "Thank you for your time and enthusiasm!" A great way to wrap up our Town Halls for 2013. We look forward to seeing you all again next year!
Following up on the Oct 7 OUC Town Hall in Colorado Springs, we visited the historic old hospital (Building 500) on the Anschutz Medical Campus on the very next day. A lively crowd filled Bushnell Auditorium. (Trivia question: do you know how this auditorium got its name? From Colonel George E. Bushnell, who was sent to the state in November 1917 to inspect possible sites for a tuberculosis/recuperation camp.)
Office of University Controller (OUC) staff launched the first Town Hall of 2013 on the Colorado Springs campus on Mon, Oct 7. Assistant Vice President/University Controller Bob Kuehler reviewed Fiscal Certification feedback, commended the campus for their participation in the FY 2013 CU Shared Practices (CUSP) Program, and outlined OUC highlights of the past year. OUC staff members discussed updates and plans on topics ranging from Cognos and PeopleSoft Finance to technology and Continuing Professional Education (CPE).
As of Sept 26, individuals with any SpeedType fiscal role except Officer are eligible to be approvers in CU Marketplace. What's changed: The Marketplace now recognizes Fiscal Principals and Fiscal Managers in addition to Fiscal Staff approvers. What hasn't changed: Individuals who want approval capability in the Marketplace still need to request that authorization via the Financial Systems Access Request form ... in addition to making sure they have an appropriate SpeedType fiscal role.
Please plan to join us when we visit your campus, Oct 7-11, for our annual OUC Town Halls. The Town Hall sessions are short, but full of information … on Continuing Professional Education opportunities, Cognos Reporting System developments, new FinPro Help Desk tools, and more. This is your chance to hear about what we’ve done lately – and to provide feedback on future directions. We promise a thoughtful exchange of ideas – and a few surprises! On Mon, Sept 16, the University and Campus Controllers launch their FY 2014 meeting series with an interesting array of topics for discussion, including: Accounting processes, Accounting Handbook content, OUC Town Halls, PSC Town Halls, PSC Supplier Showcases, Concur optimization projects, Fund 36 (development) policies and procedures, position numbers, campus training (Cognos, Concur, etc.), CPSR Approval, SkillSoft, and Cognos reporting. Questions on discussion points from this and any other Controllers’ Meeting should be directed to the appropriate campus controller.
Registration for the remaining September Continuing Professional Education classes is still open … and they’re filling up rapidly. Don’t delay!

We’re happy to announce some recent and excellent developments in 17 of the Cognos management-financial (m-Fin) reports.
The OUC sends out its thanks to the campus controllers’ offices and to all the organizational units who contributed to a successful year-end close for FY 2013.  Now we’ve moved on to the next phase. Our external auditors, CliftonLarsonAllen, are currently onsite for final fieldwork and will issue their report to the State Auditor’s Office later this fall. The University's Annual Financial Report for FY 2013 will be available on the OUC website in December.
