CUSP Submission Takes Introduction to Engineering Online

The Boulder Campus Academic Technology Design team (within the Office of Information Technology) is charged with improving both instruction and efficiency.  Cory Pavicich delivered both last year when the Learning Experience Designer re-created a large 1-credit survey course as a massive online course.

It began when Associate Dean Diane Sieber sought out Cory for options to meet the increasing demand for Introduction to Engineering, a course designed to excite students about a degree in the field. Cory proposed offering an entirely new type of course ... and worked with the course instructor, Assistant Dean Sarah Miller, to make that a reality by Fall 2014.

The new online course serves over 1,000 students each fall. It combines professional-quality video (interviews, overviews of majors, etc.), in-person panel discussions, and hands-on experience (individual and group) in a compressed schedule. Student reaction to the online structure is highly positive  and the course has been described as a showcase project for the future of the University.
