UIS Supports Research Administration at CU as InfoEd Strategic Partner

InfoEd is CU's business partner that provides the technical foundation for managing proposals and pre- and post- award processes across our Electronic Research Administration (eRA) function. As one of InfoEd's strategic clients within the higher education space, University Information Systems (UIS) has long contributed to the evolution of the vendor's suite of research administration modules as a member of the InfoEd Community Advisory Group (ICAG).

CU went live on InfoEd in 2008 and in 2009 we began participating in the ICAG steering committee. Until recently, Bob O'Malley, UIS's eRA Director, served as ICAG's co-chair and Jennifer Silverthorne, eRA Application Manager, currently serves as a member of the committee. The committee meets with InfoEd monthly to collaborate with the vendor on a range of issues.

Why is participation in ICAG's steering committee so important for CU? The Committee serves to ensure that InfoEd clients have a voice in the evolution of the product and that they are well informed about upcoming changes. They determine agendas for InfoEd's international town hall meetings and represent the client community to ensure that their collective voice is heard and responded to in decisions about product enhancements and issue resolution. Examples of the projects the steering committee recently participated in include:

  • a survey of the user community to gather enhancement requests to be prioritized and implemented by the vendor, which represented the first time InfoEd placed enhancement decisions into client's hands
  • the agendas for webinars and networking events based on the client community's needs
  • quarterly town hall meetings where the vendor and client community interact to discuss client-submitted topics and a range of issues related to the InfoEd suite of applications.

Participation in the steering committee helps ensure that CU has a seat at the table where decisions are prioritized and responded to.
