Cybersecurity lessons that last

Cybersecurity Awareness Month may be over, but our commitment continues. This October, students, faculty and staff across the University of Colorado engaged in activities and expert-led webinars, learning that every click matters.

In addition to webinars and online articles, CU hosted five events across campuses featuring the popular Plinko game, “Are You Cyber Safe?” This hands-on activity sparked conversations and helped staff and students learn practical tips for staying secure.

“The Plinko game has proven to be an excellent PR tool in helping staff and students understand that security behaviors are not as complicated as they might think, ” said Janet Bravo, cybersecurity program coordinator. “It’s a fun way to make an important topic more approachable.”

Brad Judy, CU System chief information security officer, underscored the importance of ongoing awareness: "Cybersecurity is a year-round responsibility. Continuous partnership within the CU community is essential to keeping CU safe."

Resources and Next Steps

UCCS hosted a webinar, Your Role in Online Security, with Benjamin Edelen, chief information security officer from Boulder County, which requires a password security code found on the Cybersecurity Awareness site.

The UIS Service Desk recently shared several Tech Tips related to cybersecurity:

You can still access training materials and campus-specific resources to strengthen your cyber habits. Visit the CU Cybersecurity Awareness page for tips on password management, phishing prevention and safe data practices.
