Department and vendor questions about tax-exempt status and certification have been increasing significantly over the past several years.
To get answers as quickly and efficiently as possible, be sure you know where to go, when you need tax-related help.
Review the OUC's redesigned Tax website:
- We've recently updated all the webpages under Tax -- including those that provide information on Moving Expenses (for employees and for entire labs or departments) and on Unrelated Business Income Tax (UBIT).
- The page you'll want to become most familiar with is Tax-Exempt Information. Use the new toggles to step through the process of making a tax-exempt purchase and locating certificates for Colorado and other states and for home rule cities. There's also guidance on when your department is not tax-exempt and you need to pay sales tax.
Listen to our recent Tax-focused webinar:
- If you missed our Continuing Professional Education (CPE) webinar last month on Understanding University Tax Liabilities -- or if you participated, but would like to refresh your memory -- there's some good news!
- We posted a recording on our website and now you can watch it at your convenience. Look for the recorded webinar link on the course page, in the upper right sidebar.
Reach out to us with questions:
- We're ready to help find and sign the documents you need, and we're happy to help you work with vendors when they ask you to submit new forms to them.
- The place to contact is the OUC's Financial Services & Solutions team (FSS@cu.edu).
- Please note: The Procurement Service Center regularly receives tax inquiries and transfers them to us. So please save time and reach out directly to FSS@cu.edu with your tax-related issues.
