CU in DC

In October 2021, CU Denver Chancellor Michelle Marks traveled to Capitol Hill in her role as a member of the Coalition of Urban Serving Universities (USU) Board of Directors.  While there, she met with members of Colorado’s congressional delegation, and staff from the White House Initiative on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity for Hispanics and the Department of Education’s Office of Postsecondary Education. The purpose of her meetings was to provide updates related to CU Denver’s status as an Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) as well as campus efforts to bolster the higher education experience for underrepresented and first-generation students in Colorado and across the Rocky Mountain West.  Chancellor Marks also provided an update on key priorities as Colorado’s only public urban research university, such as those outlined in the university’s 2030 Strategic Plan.

CU Athletic Director Rick George also travelled to Washington, D.C. during the fall of 2021. George met with members of Colorado’s congressional delegation to provide updates related to name, image, and likeness issues and other policies affecting student athletes during his September visit to Washington D.C.
