CU Boulder Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation Participates in All Things Research 2016
CU Boulder Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation Terri Fiez participated in a media roundtable for Senior Research Officers (SRO) in Washington, DC titled All Things Research 2016. The event was sponsored by the Association of American Universities (AAU) and The Science Coalition.
Dr. Fiez was one of only ten research officers selected for the July 12 panel, which included representatives from research universities from around the country. The panel discussed the value of federal investment in scientific research and was organized around three topical areas: America’s innovation imperative; research and society’s grand challenges; and tough issues facing science today. Nine national media outlets participated, including Science, Nature, The Chronicle of Higher Education, Inside Higher Ed, Politico, Scientific American, Bloomberg BNA, Science & Enterprise, and Physics Today.
At this national forum, Dr. Fiez was able to spotlight several important campus initiatives including the “Our Space, Our Future” Grand Challenge and the Inclusive Excellence initiative. She also discussed some of the research and creative work underway on campus, including the development of next generation, low-cost HPV vaccines by Robert Garcea of the CU Boulder BioFrontiers institute and others that will save women’s lives in the developing world.
