CU Anschutz Medical Campus Students Meet with Legislators at Capitol
CU Anschutz Medical Campus student senate leaders visited the Capitol for CU Anschutz Student Government Legislative Day. They had the opportunity to join Legislators on the floor to listen to debate in both houses. Over breakfast and lunch of the April 3rd event, they heard from Senators Kevin Priola (R-Henderson), Nancy Todd (D-Aurora), Dominick Moreno (D-Commerce City) and Representatives Dafna Michaelson Jenet (D-Commerce City) and Chris Hansen (D-Denver). The high point was the hour they spent with Senator Moreno, a member of the Legislature’s Joint Budget Committee (JBC) who detailed the budget process and dynamic, letting the students know that the six JBC members were “locked down” in support of SB 17-193. The bill provides $1 million in seed money to help the CU Anschutz Medical Campus establish a National Center for research into substance use disorder prevention, treatment and recovery support strategies.
