2020 State Legislative Preview

The 2020 state legislative session convened on January 8. Our team is excited to work with state legislators on different ways to support higher education and advance CU’s legislative priorities. CU President Mark Kennedy, the Chancellors, and the Government Relations team have spent the interim meeting with individual legislators and members of the Executive Branch to prepare for and advocate on the key issues of importance to CU. These relationships will be key in working through legislative and budgetary opportunities and challenges.

This session, we expect to see proposed legislation on mental health, funding for Pre-K, early childhood and rural teacher shortages as well as interim committee bills that address access to higher education.

Some of our key focuses this session include:

  • Funding for higher education
  • Supporting the various capital requests from our campuses
  • Teacher preparation endeavors for rural and early childhood education
  • Access to mental healthcare for students
