Students assist alumna and city archaeologist on dig at Garden of the Gods

Anna Cordova’s job is to make sure that as Colorado Springs builds for its future, the city protects its past. Cordova, earned her bachelor’s degree from UCCS in anthropology in 2006 and master’s degree in applied geography in 2016. As Colorado Springs’ city archaeologist, Cordova trains Parks and Recreation staff to recognize archaeological artifacts, keeps tabs on historic remnants found on Colorado Springs property, and regularly consults with the Southern Ute and Ute Mountain Ute tribes when performing excavation work.
