Where:
CU President's Office, 1800 Grant St. Denver, CO 80203
Description:

CU Advocates will partner with the Denver Forever Buffs chapter to host a CU Lunch and Learn on Afghanistan and Pakistan with CU Boulder professor Lucy Chester.  She will take you on a learning journey...What can the history of Afghanistan and Pakistan tell us about their future?  What does past imperial experience suggest about the success of US involvement in Afghanistan?  This talk will examine the history of this crucial region as a means of analyzing present policy challenges there.  British colonial attitudes and assumptions about government, ethnicity, and religion have had profound effects on the post-colonial development of these two states.  Examining regional histories can help prevent present-day mistakes – but there are limits to the use of analogy in policy-making.  This talk will suggest key points to keep in mind when considering potential educational, political, and military changes in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
