Student Employee Retirement Plan changes: Here’s what you need to know [1]

November 21, 2019 by Employee Services [2]

Important changes took effect Oct. 1 for people with an account under the University of Colorado’s Student Employee Retirement Plan (SERP).

Previously, a person with a SERP account could take an account distribution once they were no longer employed with the university and no longer matriculating as a student.

Now, the matriculation criteria has been removed. Students no longer employed at the university in any capacity may take a SERP distribution. This non-distribution rule applies also to former students who are currently employed by the university in any capacity, even if the former student is now employed with the university in a non-student position.
