The
Mission ("Charge") of the SISGC
The SIS
Governance Committee (SISGC) is created to insure that the Student Information
System (SIS) is managed by the campuses that the system serves, and is
responsive to campus needs and priorities.
The Committee
shall have the following mission/charge:
- Develop
policies, consistent with University and campus policies, for the use
and funding of the Student Information System (SIS).
- Recommend
these policies for further consideration to the System Administrative
Support Steering Committee (SASSC);
- Adopt
policies, consistent with University and campus policies and generally
accepted system practices, for the development, operation, maintenance,
and enhancement of SIS;
- Specify,
in cooperation with University Management Systems (UMS), the services
to be provided by UMS for SIS, and the performance standards to be met
by UMS;
- Specify,
in cooperation with key users, the responsibilities of SIS users;
- Specify
data quality standards in consultation with Information Resource Management
(IRM) staff;
- Develop
an annual maintenance programming plan for SIS, obtain estimates of
the cost of implementing the plan, and report the plan and the funding
recommendations to the SASSC;
- Develop
an annual enhancement programming plan for SIS, obtain estimates of
the cost of implementing the plan, obtain commitments from the campuses
for funding the plan, and report the plan and the funding commitments
to the SASSC;
- For
SIS, monitor consumption of UMS services, UMS performance, and costs
of the systems. If performance falls below standards, develop plans
for improvement of performance in cooperation with UMS;
- Monitor
data quality. If data quality falls below standards, develop plans for
improvement of data quality in cooperation with key users;
- Conduct
periodic assessments of the strengths and weaknesses of the applications,
addressing controls, quality of data, effectiveness of management and
governance, effectiveness of UMS in operating the application, adequacy
of funding, and unmet needs. Report these assessments to the SASSC;
- Direct
the work of the SIS System Development Director, who is responsible
for supporting the work of the SISGC, for working with users and UMS
to implement the decisions of the Committee, and for managing the system
on a daily basis.
