Alexis Kelly currently acts as Assistant Treasurer within the Office of the Treasurer. Her responsibilities are primarily focused on managing the University’s banking and credit card services for all campuses. She also works with CU departments to implement secure credit card payment options.
“I enjoy visiting the campuses and meeting with departmental staff to understand their needs and determine the best option is my favorite part, but I also enjoy helping to find missing transactions and reconcile accounts; it is like solving a puzzle,” said Kelly.
I was working part time at a non-profit organization and wanted to make a change to full-time employment. Having grown up in the area, I knew that CU had a great reputation and benefits, so I applied and was hired into a position at the Boulder campus Admissions Operations department. A few years later, an opportunity led me to a position in System Administration.
As Assistant Treasurer, my responsibilities are focused primarily on managing the University’s banking and credit card services for the campuses and System. Banking services at CU are centralized, so I manage the banking relationship and help departments determine what bank solutions would work best for their business needs. I also work with CU departments to implement secure options for credit card payments and manage the PCI compliance initiative in collaboration with the campus and System security teams. I also feel like this is home.
In October 2019, the Treasurer’s Office launched the CU Online Store, www.cu.edu/store, an online portal for incoming credit card payments. I began the process almost 2 years ago to select a vendor, and then managed the security assessment, campus demos, contract negotiation, website design, and portal configuration. It was a long, but rewarding process and I am excited to offer this payment gateway to CU departments.
The people! We have a great Treasury team that works together to provide system-wide debt financing, cash and investment management, operate the Faculty Housing Assistance Program, and accounting for these areas. We try to create efficiencies in these operations and cost savings to the campuses.
Each day is different, which I love. Some days consist of back-to-back meetings, some are research intensive, and some days I listen and collaborate to solve a problem.
My parents moved to Colorado from Wyoming when I was young, so Colorado has always been my home. However, I have never wanted to live anywhere else. I love the sunshine, spending time outdoors, and taking advantage of all the cultural and fun activities such as the Performing Arts Center, museums, and national parks.
Our office is located near Downtown Denver, so I love to take walks through the Uptown residential areas, Capitol Hill, and to the 16th Street mall.
D Bar and Las Delicias, both located near the System building location.
I recently started playing golf, so I plan to take lessons this summer to improve my game. I like to travel, cook, and spend time with family and friends.
The outstanding retirement benefit is at the top of my list. Second is the excellent health insurance and best medical providers in the region. I also took advantage of the tuition benefit a few years ago to complete online courses at the CU Denver Business School.
