NOTE: The timeline for the presidential search is evolving. Dates will be added as information becomes available.

  • June 3, 2021 – The Board of Regents appoints CU Senior Vice President for Strategy, Government Relations and Chief Financial Officer Todd Saliman as president during the interim. He will serve until the next president is selected.
  • July 12-14, 2021 – The board discusses the next steps in the search at its annual retreat. Regents also met with the four campus chancellors to get their input on the qualities/qualifications of the next president. Additionally, the board hosted a panel featuring other higher education leaders in Colorado, who shared their thoughts about CU’s next president and the search. It featured Colorado State University Chancellor Tony Frank, University of Northern Colorado President Andy Feinstein and Fort Lewis College President Tom Stritikus.
  • Aug. 9, 2021 – The Board of Regents begins listening sessions with CU’s faculty, staff and student shared governance groups, as well as with groups outside the university.
  • Aug. 17, 2021 – The Board of Regents authorizes CU’s Procurement Service Center to issue a Request for Proposals to identify a firm to assist with the search.
  • Sept. 10, 2021 – The board appointed Regent Lesley Smith as chair of the search  committee. A decision on co-chair or vice chair is pending. The regents also approved refinements to Regent Policy 3-C, which guides the search.
  • Sept. 16, 2021 – The Request for Proposal for potential search firms closes. Proposals are evaluated using CU’s standard procurement process.
  • Sept. 20, 2021 – Some members of the CU Board of Regents join President Todd Saliman and other university officials on an outreach tour of northeastern Colorado. Part of the tour involves listening sessions regarding the presidential search.
  • Sept. 21, 2021 – The Board of Regents issues a call for nominations to identify members of the search committee. It communicates the call to constituent groups identified in Regent Policy 3-C.
  • Sept. 29, 2021 – Some members of the CU Board of Regents join President Todd Saliman and other university officials on an outreach tour of southern Colorado. Part of the tour involves listening sessions regarding the presidential search.
  • Oct. 4 – Nov. 4 – Staff from the Procurement Service Center and university administration evaluate search firm proposals and interviews potential firms. The goal is to bring a list of firms for the board to interview.
  • Oct. 21, 2021 – The deadline for nominations to the search committee arrives.
  • Mid-November, 2021 – The Board of Regents is expected to name the presidential search committee.
