Use The Work Number for employment verification requests
If you receive a request for verification of employment or income for someone in your department, you can refer them to The Work Number.
This service, offered by credit reporting agency Equifax, makes employment information available 24/7 through a secure channel.
The Work Number requires the requesting party complete a credentialing process to prove they have a legitimate business reason to access employment data. All verifiers are credentialed prior to system use and authenticated at login, and verifier activity is monitored and audited to ensure compliance with the above safeguards. Common permissible purposes include as part of the extension of credit, as part of an account review, for employment purposes, or when ordered by a court.
Additionally, employees may grant or restrict permission for even credentialed entities to access income information.
The Work Number is also useful for verifying crucial personal information. In compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act, employees can find out who has requested their information and dispute inaccurate data.
