Colorado’s Healthy Families and Workplaces Act gave previously ineligible University of Colorado employees regular sick leave, along with the ability to request emergency sick leave during public health emergencies. The law went into effect Jan. 1, 2021.
Employee Services and UIS teams started to implement the law’s requirements during summer 2020, after the Healthy Families and Workplaces Act was signed by Colorado Gov. Jared Polis.
Ensuring CU’s compliance with the law, UIS and Employee Services collaborated to create sick leave deduction codes, leave accrual functionality and a newly developed benefits program.
With this implementation, a new Leave Balances tile was added in the employee portal and HCM. It allows employees to see their new sick leave balances and track their sick leave use, whether they use My Leave or not.
