Fall Startup 2018 Stats: Nearly 1 million portal visits logged by CU students

The start of the school year means a flurry of activity on CU student portals, as students add or drop classes, access schedules, review financial aid and pay tuition.

The University of Colorado’s fall 2018 semesters started on two separate weeks, with Colorado Springs, Denver, and Anschutz starting Aug. 20 and Boulder starting Aug. 27.

From Aug. 20-31, CU students logged 913,298 portal visits across all four campuses, not including CU employees. Having start days in different weeks spreads out the number of portal uses over two weeks, as the infographic below shows.

With more than 600 hours put into the overall project, the UIS Student Systems, Portal and Mobile, and ECS and IAM teams worked hard with campus partners to ensure students had a seamless experience during their first few weeks of school.

As UIS has improved and streamlined its processes, the number of hours needed to prepare for the school year has steadily declined. This year, UIS reduced the number of hours spent planning and preparing by half – saving just over 600 hours. This was primarily due to fewer necessary system enhancements compared to previous semesters.
