Faculty SIG

Members - TBA

Charge

The new Student Information System will be used by academic schools, colleges, and departments to manage academic resources and track students in a variety of ways. A special interest group is being formed of faculty members who can provide the project with the special perspective and expertise of faculty members to help assure that the new SIS is meeting faculty needs.

Responsibilities

1. Help define the requirements for a new SIS to support faculty activities and needs.
2. Provide additional expertise and perspective to the project team (including the work teams), the Advisory Committee, and the Executive Committee.
3. Help formulate strategies for implementation and support from the perspective of the faculty. Topics will include delivery of class rosters, grading, prerequisite checking, faculty academic advising, and other topics of importance to faculty members.

Membership

The Student Information System is a complex system that touches many parts of the University with a significant number and diversity of stakeholders. The new SIS is intended to provide better support for the academic units of the University. Participants in the Faculty SIG should have experience and expertise with SIS and its support for faculty activities. Participants should be willing to devote some time outside of meetings documenting needs, reviewing and contributing to the requirements that the project groups define, and (over the course of the project), helping to design and document new processes and deliverables. The special interest group will have membership from any faculty members who are interested in participating, along with others such as academic administrators.

Relationships

This special interest group will report its recommendations to the SIS Advisory Committee and Executive Committee. It will provide additional perspective to both groups related to faculty needs.

Meeting Pattern

Bi-monthly or quarterly meetings will be scheduled. Additional meetings will be required on an as needed basis. This is a multi-campus group, with meetings in Denver or by phone. Time commitments will vary but might take 2 to 8 hours per month through mid-2006 and more during the RFP evaluation.
