Why did you initially apply to work at CU?

I am a CU-Boulder alumna and had a wonderful student experience during my time here. After graduation, I spent a few years in nonprofit and government work, but found myself dissatisfied and longing to be back on the college campus. When I saw the posting for a job as an admission counselor at my alma mater, I jumped at the chance to apply. This job seemed like the perfect fit for me to make an impact on the lives of students at a critical time in their lives while also gaining some invaluable professional experience.

What makes CU a great place to work?

So many things make CU great! But one of the reasons I keep coming back is the people. I work with an energetic group of folks who put students first. This university is constantly looking for ways to improve itself, and the people who work here work hard to make those improvements happen every day. We want to increase diversity here, we care about sustainability, and we are always looking for ways to improve the student experience.

What is/are your favorite aspect(s) of working at CU?

My favorite thing about working at CU-Boulder is the fact that it is a college campus. There are few places where you’ll find a more energetic and lively environment, constant opportunities to learn and a beautiful setting.

What is the best part of your workday?

I love looking up at the Flatirons at any given moment of the day. It really puts things into perspective and helps me remember how lucky I am to work in such a beautiful location!

What activities are available for staff members to enjoy together outside of academics?

Our office has taken advantage of numerous on-campus activities. Bowling at the CU Connection is a great after-work activity. Every year, our office competes with the Office of Financial Aid in a kickball game on Farrand Field. The winner gets bragging rights for a year. Many of us also enjoy attending CU sporting events, and I even have basketball season tickets!

What do you enjoy most about living in Colorado?

I love the diversity of activities you can enjoy in this state. Of course, when most people think of Colorado, they think of skiing, but that’s only part of the fun. The summers in Colorado are lovely and you can still enjoy our beautiful backyard with activities like camping, hiking, biking and more.

If you’re not the outdoorsy type, Denver provides a taste of city life. I love the music scene in Denver and the surrounding area, and there’s truly always something going on in this vibrant place!

What is your favorite campus location?

I love Varsity Pond. It takes me back to my days as a student here. It’s such a beautiful place to study and take in the beauty of Boulder! It’s a serene escape from busy campus life.

What is your favorite area restaurant?

Zoe Ma-Ma and Thai Avenue are a couple of favorites. A co-worker recently introduced me to Zoe Ma-Ma, and I can’t wait to go back! Authentic street Chinese food served fast – who knew you could find that in Boulder, Colorado?

What do you enjoy doing on your spare time?

I enjoy attending sporting events and concerts, trying new restaurants, and running and hiking on some of the beautiful trails in Colorado.
