Brief Description: Establishes the University of Colorado's policy on access to student education records consistent with the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) and allows undergraduate graduating seniors to receive, upon request, notification of their numerical class rank.

Policy Statement

The University of Colorado (University) is required to comply with the provisions of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), as amended. The purpose of FERPA is to afford certain rights to students concerning their educational records. In particular, FERPA grants post-secondary students the right to:

  1. inspect and receive their education records;
  2. seek to have their education records amended, if there are inaccuracies; and
  3. have limited control over the disclosure of information contained in their educational records.

Pursuant to Board Resolution, dated December 5, 2006, each undergraduate graduating senior is entitled to receive, upon request, official notification of their numerical class standing graduating from the College/School for the semester in which they graduated. Undergraduate graduating seniors should be advised of the availability of this option.

Each campus is directed to develop adequate guidelines and procedures to ensure the responsible management of educational records in compliance with FERPA.
