University of Colorado campuses maintain prominence nationally

CU notches several high marks in U.S. News & World Report’s 2017 Best Colleges rankings

DENVER — The latest edition of U.S. News & World Report’s annual Best Colleges remains a showcase for University of Colorado campuses and their undergraduate programs, which maintain their long-standing marks of excellence.

On the just-released list of Best National Universities for 2017, the University of Colorado Boulder is No. 38 among top public national universities. CU Boulder is 92nd among all public, private and for-profit universities in the country.

The University of Colorado Denver is No. 106 among top public national universities and No. 197 among all national universities.

The University of Colorado Colorado Springs is No. 9 on the list of top public regional universities of the West and 39th overall among regional universities of the West.

Other Best Colleges highlights from U.S. News & World Report, which will release more lists and rankings on Tuesday:

  • CU Boulder’s undergraduate engineering program comes in at 18th among public institutions whose highest degree is a doctorate, 32nd overall.
  • CU Boulder’s undergraduate business program at the Leeds School of Business lands at 21st among public universities and 32nd overall.
  • CU Denver’s undergraduate business program is 58th among public universities and 94th overall among all national universities.
  • The undergraduate program in the UCCS College of Business is No. 82 among public universities and No. 133 overall among national universities.
  • The list of Best Colleges for Veterans places CU Boulder at No. 27 among public national universities, and No. 59 among all national universities. These are the top institutions offering benefits to help make college education more affordable for military veterans and active-duty service members.

The rankings released in advance by U.S. News & World Report are incomplete; more CU schools and programs are expected to be included on lists to be released Tuesday.

U.S. News & World Report rankings are based on measures of academic peer assessment, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving. “National Universities” are the 310 institutions – 189 public, 114 private and seven for-profit institutions – that offer a wide range of undergraduate majors as well as master’s and doctoral degrees; some emphasize research.
