Emergency room vs. urgent care: Which is best for you?
Benefits for plan year 2014-15 began July 1, increasing emergency room visit co-pays to $150 for CU Health Plan – Exclusive members. (This fee is waived if you are admitted to the hospital.)
Consider using an urgent care facility when you need health care quickly and can’t see your primary care provider. Clinics are often open nights and weekends and by using an urgent care facility, your cost is $30 per visit. Another plus: Urgent care centers may have quicker access to doctors than crowded emergency rooms.
As always, if the situation calls for emergency services, do not hesitate to use an emergency room.
The University of Colorado provides information about urgent care facilities and locations under “Find a Doctor” on the CU Health Plan microsite.
