Women fill top positions of CU's Board of Regents, look at systemwide equality

University of Colorado Board of Regents joked during their summer retreat in Estes Park that this was the board's year of the women.

For the first time in CU history, both the board chair and vice chair positions have been filled by women, and Chair Sue Sharkey and Vice Chair Linda Shoemaker plan on using this milestone to advance the status of women systemwide.

"Whether it's campus safety, ensuring more women are in leadership roles, in faculty, tenure decisions," Sharkey said. "We want to bring more of that equality, and I think Linda and I have that opportunity to do that, putting our political philosophies aside."
