Do you like being shadowed? Many of our callers to the Finance & Procurement Help Desk would like the FinProHelp Consultants to shadow them -- in other words, to look directly at their screens as the Consultants answer technical or procedural questions. Good news in time for fiscal year-end: We'll be implementing a new (and better) shadowing tool later this month. Look for the announcement in a future OUC blog posting.
Attention CU employees: Are you a CPA, CFE, or CIA who’s looking for interesting, relevant continuing education? Or … Are you someone without those initials after your name who’s looking for interesting, relevant professional development? Did you know you can earn – and learn – for free?
Need access? If you're looking for authorization to use the PeopleSoft Finance System and/or CU Marketplace, look no further than the improved Financial Systems Access Request form available online at www.cu.edu/ums/security/CUonly/AMPS/accessrequestforms.php. (Note: We provide links to the access request form from both the OUC and PSC Forms webpages.)
Our Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Program recently concluded its final quarter for FY 2013. On April 10, we offered three courses: Emotional Intelligence, Fiscal Roles in Financial Systems and Reporting, and GASB Update. On April 29, we repeated two popular courses from earlier quarters: Understanding Internal Controls, and Cash Controls. In CPA-CPE terms, the value of these courses to their three-dozen participants is conservatively estimated at $13,275.
The majority of the May meeting time: CUSP (CU Shared Practices) presentations on this year’s accepted submissions. For a complete list of the 2013 CUSP submissions, see the CUSP website at www.cu.edu/controller/initiatives/cusp/?cat=6. Questions on discussion points from this and any other Campus Controllers’ Meeting should be directed to the appropriate campus controller.
At 1800 Grant Street, this year’s Take Our Sons and Daughters to Work Day embraced the theme “Let’s Move.” Picking up on the Be Colorado initiative, the April event offered mental and physical activities for children of OUC and other System Administration office staff. Heather Hoyer, OUC’s Procurement Training Specialist and Forms Developer, assisted the System planning committee in designing learning opportunities and an obstacle course for children aged 6-16 years.
There's a new calendar in town. On the Finance System Calendars tab at www.cu.edu/controller/finance/, you'll now find two options under the listing, "FY 2013 Year-End Calendar." The new online option -- at www.cu.edu/controller/finance/calendar.html -- offers filters on activities related to Fiscal Year-End (FYE).
On Fri, April 26, the OUC hosted its first annual CPE Instructor Appreciation Event. This year’s celebration honors the 19 current instructors in the CU CPE for CPAs (Continuing Professional Education for Certified Public Accountants) Program. Lisa Suzanne Vallad, CPE Program Manager, reviewed CPE statistics, program success to date, and plans for FY2014. She commended the instructors for their continued high evaluations and noted that framed certificates of appreciation would be sent to them shortly.
Do you hate it when headers disappear on your financial reports? Just remember: You are in control! For your Cognos financial reports, run in HTML, you can keep those column headers visible on screen while you scroll. All you need to do is right-click anywhere in the list. In the resulting pop-up box, select Freeze Column Headings. For more information, see Carl's m-Fin blog: www.cu.edu/controller/initiatives/reporting/?p=2698
Fiscal year-end 2013 is rapidly approaching. And this year, we’re substantially revising the information we provide to guide departments through this critical time period. If FYE activities are part of your job responsibilities, you probably remember last year’s FYE Infosheet. That document listed processing deadlines for CU Marketplace and the Concur Travel & Expense System, along with detail on the year-end accrual journals and reversals.
